Saving resources by outsourcing maintenance
Kopar's maintenance engineers travel to Norway once a year to make sure that the machinery at Boliden's zinc smelter in Odda is working and the process running as intended.
The long-term maintenance agreement covers needs assessment, annual servicing and parts as needed. The turnkey maintenance service ensures that staff in Odda can focus on what they do best: producing zinc.
Boliden Odda and Kopar first started working together around ten years ago. Kopar has supplied the smelter with mechanical material handling machinery and various kinds of storage systems.
Odda's reasons for outsourcing maintenance were financial. And since Kopar supplied the machinery, they also know it better than anyone else. Getting parts is easy.
"All the systems we have bought from Kopar have been state of the art, and we have had very few problems with them. Even if a machine malfunctions, Kopar's engineers fix it straight away.
We have been extremely happy with Kopar taking care of all aspects of maintenance and freeing us from the responsibility."
Kjell Kråkevik, Boliden Odda's Roaster Maintenance Manager

Solid carbon handling in a hydrogen production plant
We delivered equipment for the safe handling of solid carbon to Europe's largest hydrogen production plant based on methane pyrolysis.
Cooling of the copper alloy
KGHM's Głogów smelter's copper concentrate cooling drum was delivered to Poland in 2016. The cooling drum is fed with 20 t/h of concentrate at a temperature of approximately 450°C. The drum cools the material down to approximately 130°C.
Bed sand drying
In 2015, we supplied a sand dryer for a power plant located in the Indonesian rainforest for the first time. The drying takes place in a rotating drum with a diameter of 1600mm, into which the wet sand is fed. The drying energy is generated by an oil burner. The dryer has a length of 5000mm and a capacity of 5 m³/h.
Cooling Equipment for anhydrite in a hydrofluoric acid production plant
In a chemical industry production facility located in Southeast Asia, a reliable solution was needed for the treatment of process side streams. Kopar supplied cooling technology for the project, which supports safe material handling, process stability, and sustainable production under demanding operating conditions.
