New work opportunities
When Kopar offered Petri Lampila a remote work contract as a chief design engineer,, he had already worked seven years for Kopar through a engineering company based in Jyväskylä. Kopar’s offer was so tempting that Lampila decided to accept it.
In the engineering office, Lampila worked as a team leader. The work consisted of technical engineering, focusing on conveyors. At Kopar, Lampila’s job description expanded.
– Besides mechanical design, my work now includes documentation and project management. In addition, we collaborate with automation engineers on the electrical side. The scale is vast, and there is plenty to do, Lampila says.
Lampila lives in Jyväskylä, and he mainly works from home. However, depending on the project, he also travels to Parkano regularly. The possibility of working remotely was decisive in choosing the job.
– Due to my family situation, moving was out of the question. That is why this contract suited me well. Many engineering-related tasks can be carried out remotely. We work a lot through Teams. The coronavirus pandemic further improved remote work opportunities.
“Besides resourcing and leading the project design, I also work as a chief design engineer. We have four of our own design engineers and several subcontractors.”

The job description has expanded over the years
As a chief design engineer, Lampila was responsible for the main design of the project and directing the subcontracting design. A year ago, Lampila became a team leader and, later on, a supervisor for the design team. His weeks always start with a weekly meeting. In addition, Lampila and his team gather each morning to stay up to date.
– Besides resourcing and leading the project design, I also work as a chief design engineer. We have four of our own design engineers and several subcontractors.
“The good thing is that the work is varied, and one constantly learns new things. On the other hand, there is often quite a bit of hustle and bustle.”

The job gives an opportunity to grow
The best thing about Lampila’s job is its broad scope. The sector of design teams is not strictly limited, but designers can participate very extensively in all work if they wish.
– The good thing is that the work is varied, and one constantly learns new things. On the other hand, there is often quite a bit of hustle and bustle.
Lampila says that as an employer, Kopar is fair and approachable. The management trusts the employees, and everyone gets to do different tasks if they raise their hand to show interest. Job descriptions are not compartmentalised, unlike in some other companies.
– This is probably partly due to a relatively small group working here, making it easy to share responsibility. On the other hand, I feel that employees are trusted, and mistakes are treated with understanding. Supervisors emphasise that we should not be afraid of making mistakes.
“Kopar suits active people who appreciate mutual flexibility whenever necessary.”

According to Lampila, Kopar is an ideal workplace for individuals willing to work hard and participate actively.
– Kopar suits active people who appreciate mutual flexibility whenever necessary. The job is fast-paced and challenging but offers opportunities to develop diverse professional skills.
