We have a long tradition of nonferrous metal and steel smelting processes. Over the decades, we have designed and manufactured material handling solutions for smelters and steel mills around the world.  

We work closely with both individual smelters and leading technology suppliers. Every metal smelting process is unique, which is why Kopar is strongly focused on developing customer-specific solutions. We design and implement tailor-made conveying solutions for individual needs. 

Kopar offers a wide range of solutions for material conveying and handling. Our strength lies in knowing the properties of different materials and process conditions. Our special expertise is the mechanical and pneumatic conveying of concentrates and other abrasive input materials, process by and product streams, and primary and secondary acid gas dust. In addition, our crushers are used to break down dust deposits from waste heat boilers, among other things.

Mechanical conveyors

Kopar offers a wide range of mechanical conveyors specifically designed to withstand the demanding conditions of smelters.  

Drag chain and screw conveyors are suitable for conveying heavy and coarse materials, such as copper and nickel concentrates, metal dust, and slag. Their robust design ensures reliable operation in hot and abrasive environments typical of smelter operating conditions.   

Rotary valves and airlock feeders are used when accurate dosing and material flow control are required, which is critical for process optimisation and quality assurance. These conveyors are particularly favoured for handling fine and dusty materials, such as metal dust. 

Bucket elevators are efficient in conveying slag and concentrates, and their high conveying capacity enables smooth material handling during processes. Bucket elevators are used especially when materials need to be moved vertically.  

In addition, Kopar has developed special applications such as slag granulation, which supports the waste management process of the smelter and promotes material recycling.  

Pneumatic conveyors

Kopar offers a comprehensive range of pneumatic conveyor solutions specifically designed for feed material and dust handling needs of smelters. These systems are highly efficient in the transfer of concentrates, dust, and calcine from storage silos, waste boilers, electrostatic precipitators, and bag filters. Pneumatic conveyors allow material transfer in closed systems, reducing dust dispersion and improving safety in the working environment. They can be easily integrated into an existing factory.  

As a special application, concentrates, coal, or other powdery materials can be pneumatically injected inside the molten material in the metallurgical furnace in a controlled manner, optimising process efficiency.  

For pneumatic conveyors, we use dense-phase conveying and dilute-phase conveying, which enable the efficient and economical transfer of even the most demanding materials. Dense phase conveying is ideal for transferring larger particle-sized materials, while dilute phase conveying is ideal for lighter and finer materials. Both methods ensure fast transfer of materials and minimise wear and tear in the conveyor system.  

In addition, we offer blower conveyors for dust that is difficult to convey. Blower conveying ensures that dust is transferred safely and efficiently to be handled or stored using rotary valves and hoses. 

Crushers

Kopar crushers are designed to withstand the demanding conditions of industry, offering high performance and reliability. An efficient crushing process reduces energy consumption and increases material recovery, supporting sustainability goals. 

We use different crushing technologies for different material types. Roll and rotor crushers are ideal for crushing concentrates, metal dust, and zinc calcine, among other things. Rotor crushers are top-notch in power and extremely robust, making them an ideal choice for handling abrasive materials. Roll crushers, on the other hand, are suitable for fine crushing and are the choice when product quality requirements demand precise particle size control. Our crushers can also be used to crush agglomerates and lumps of more special materials. 

Our crushers are designed with easy access to serviceable parts in mind, enabling quick repairs and parts replacements with minimal production downtime. 

Cooling

Cooling processes of zinc smelters require durability and reliability due to high operating temperatures and corrosive materials. Kopar’s cooling systems offer an effective solution to these challenges.  

Our cooling drums and KRC (Kopar Rotary Coolers) are specially designed for cooling hot and abrasive metal powders such as molybdenum, various slags, and metal oxides. 

Originally designed for calcine cooling, Kopar’s cooling drums ensure that these materials safely and efficiently reach the optimum temperature before further processing or storage.  

KRC offers a solution to challenging conditions where traditional cooling methods are no longer sufficient. This technology enables fast and efficient cooling, which is critical for preserving the chemical composition and physical properties of materials. 

These devices will last for years, even in the most demanding conditions. This improves the safety and efficiency of the production process while reducing the environmental impact during the cooling process. 

Chains and cupola valves

Kopar’s chains and cupola valves are high-quality products designed to meet the diverse needs of the industry, supporting a wide range of conveying and processing systems. They improve equipment efficiency and extend equipment life. 

Our chains are essential components in many conveyor systems. We offer extremely robust and reliable chains to fit any chain conveyor, whether the conveyor is manufactured by Kopar or another supplier. Our chains are designed for high temperatures and corrosive environments.
